Big Bass Splash slot review
Big Bass Splash is the 2022 follow-up to Big Bass Bonanza, built by Reel Kingdom and released through Pragmatic Play. It keeps the familiar 5×3 fishing layout but adds up to five random modifiers before the free spins start and lifts fish money values as high as 5,000x. With a 96.71% RTP, high volatility and a 5,000x max win, it is still one of the most played games in the series years after launch.

How to play Big Bass Splash
Big Bass Splash runs on five reels and three rows with 10 fixed paylines. Line wins pay from left to right, and stakes run from 0.10 to 250 per spin, although casinos can set a lower ceiling. There is no ways system or cluster rule to learn, which is part of why the game is so easy to pick up.
The base game is deliberately plain. You spin, collect the occasional line win, and wait for scatters. The one extra comes when two scatters land: the game can nudge a reel or use a hook to pull a reel up, trying to bring a third scatter into view and start the bonus.
Almost all of the game's value sits inside free spins. That shapes how a session feels: long stretches of small returns, then a bonus that can pay a little or a lot depending on how many fish and fishermen show up.
Big Bass Splash features explained
The core loop is shared with every Big Bass game. Fish symbols carry cash values, and the fisherman is a wild that collects those values when both land on the same free spin. What Big Bass Splash changed is the range of those values and what happens before the round starts.
- Fish money symbols: each fish shows a random cash value from 2x up to 5,000x the stake. A fisherman landing alongside them collects the total.
- Fisherman wild: appears in free spins, substitutes for paying symbols and acts as the collector. Every fisherman that lands also moves a progress meter above the reels.
- Scatter help: with two scatters showing, a respin nudge or a hook can try to complete the trigger.
- Random modifiers: before free spins begin, the game can apply zero to five upgrades to the round.
The five possible modifiers are More Fish, More Fishermen, a higher chance of Dynamite, Hook and Bazooka effects during the round, an extra two spins, and starting at level two of the multiplier trail. You do not choose them; they are awarded at random as the bonus opens.
Free spins and retriggers
Three, four or five scatters award 10, 15 or 20 free spins. During the round, each fisherman collects every fish value on screen, and each one also counts towards the next retrigger.
Every fourth fisherman awards 10 extra spins and raises the win multiplier on collections: 2x after the first retrigger, 3x after the second and 10x after the third. Once the third retrigger has been reached, the meter cannot advance further.
During free spins, three random effects can step in when a spin is about to waste its symbols. Dynamite can add fish when a fisherman lands with no fish to collect, a hook can pull a fisherman onto the reels when fish are showing with no collector, and a bazooka can change symbols to create a collection. The More Dynamites, Hooks and Bazookas modifier raises how often these appear.
The 10x stage is where the game's ceiling comes from. A full round that reaches it with several high-value fish on screen is the scenario behind the 5,000x max win.
Big Bass Splash bonus buy
| Feature | Cost | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Buy Free Spins | 100× bet | Starts the bonus with at least three scatters |
Big Bass Splash keeps its buy menu simple, with one option at 100x the stake. That is the standard price across the older Big Bass games and sits at the low end for a high volatility slot. At a 1.00 stake, one buy costs 100.00.
The buy is not offered in every market; UK rules, for example, do not allow it. We found no ante bet for this version and no separate RTP figure for the buy, so we cannot say whether buying returns more or less than base play.
Bonus buys raise the cost per round sharply. A cheap-looking 100x buy is still a single high-risk bet, and a run of weak rounds can use up a budget quickly.
Big Bass Splash RTP, volatility and max win
The Big Bass Splash RTP is 96.71%, the figure on Pragmatic Play's own game page. Lower versions at 95.67% and 94.60% also exist, and casinos choose which one to run, so it is worth opening the paytable before you play.
Volatility is high. The base game offers little beyond line wins, and the result of a session depends on how often the bonus lands and how far it progresses. Many rounds end at the first or second multiplier stage with a modest return.
The max win is 5,000x the stake. That is a long way from the five-figure caps of the 1000 editions, but a single 5,000x fish exists in this game, and that is a large part of its appeal.
How Big Bass Splash differs from Big Bass Bonanza and its siblings
The original Big Bass Bonanza laid down the template: 5×3 reels, 10 lines, fish money symbols up to 2,000x, a fisherman collector, and retriggers at every fourth wild with 2x, 3x and 10x multipliers. It has no random pre-bonus modifiers and no scatter help in the base game.
Big Bass Splash keeps that skeleton and adds three things. Fish values can reach 5,000x instead of 2,000x, two scatters can be rescued by a nudge or hook, and the free spins open with up to five random modifiers that can change the shape of the round. The RTP stays at 96.71% for the standard version.
It is also different from its own sequel. Big Bass Splash 1000 caps fish at 1,000x but raises the max win to 25,000x and runs at 96.52%, so it leans on multipliers rather than single large fish. Seasonal spin-offs such as Big Bass Halloween Splash 1000 and twin-fisherman games such as Big Bass Vegas 1000 build further on the Splash format, but this is the version that introduced it.
Who Big Bass Splash suits
Big Bass Splash suits players who want a simple game with one clear goal: reach free spins and push the multiplier trail as far as it will go. The rules fit on one screen and the random modifiers add variety without asking you to make choices.
It suits players less if they want activity in the base game or a large top prize. The base game is quiet, and the 5,000x cap is moderate by current standards. If you want a higher ceiling with the same feel, the 1000 editions are the obvious next step.
Try the free demo first. A few hundred spins will show how often the bonus lands and how rarely the 10x stage is reached.
Our verdict on Big Bass Splash
Big Bass Splash earned its place as a long-running favourite. The random modifiers make every bonus feel slightly different, 5,000x fish give each round a real if remote top end, and the 96.71% RTP is above average when the standard version is running.
Its weakness is a thin base game and a cap that newer games in the series have overtaken. As a straightforward, well-tuned fishing slot it still holds up, but players chasing larger multipliers will find more in the 1000 editions.
Overall = 8.4×0.25 + 6.6×0.25 + 6.0×0.2 + 7.0×0.15 + 7.0×0.15 = 7.1. The score rates the game, not your odds of winning.
