Gates of Olympus 1000 slot review
Gates of Olympus 1000 is Pragmatic Play's upgraded edition of its best-known slot, released in December 2023. It keeps the original 6x5 tumble game almost untouched but doubles the orb multiplier cap to 1,000x and triples the max win to 15,000x the bet. The RTP is 96.50%, and the game rates its own volatility as high.

How to play Gates of Olympus 1000
Gates of Olympus 1000 is played on a 6x5 grid with Zeus hovering at the side. There are no paylines and no wild symbol. Any 8 or more matching symbols anywhere on the screen form a win, and larger groups of 10 or 12 pay more.
Each win triggers a tumble: the winning symbols are removed, new ones fall into the gaps, and the process repeats until no new wins form. The gold crown is the top symbol at 50x for 12 or more, followed by the hourglass at 25x and the ring at 15x. The five gems fill the lower end of the paytable.
Bets usually run from 0.20 to 100 per spin, rising to 125 with the ante switched on. UK sites cap stakes far lower. Because the base game is so simple, almost all of the excitement comes from the orb multipliers and the free spins round.
Gates of Olympus 1000 vs the original, Super Scatter and 2500
Pragmatic Play has released several versions of this game, and Stake lists them side by side. Here is how this one fits in.
- Original Gates of Olympus: orbs up to 500x and a 5,000x max win.
- Gates of Olympus 1000 (December 2023): the same rules and paytable, with orbs up to 1,000x and a 15,000x max win. One free spins mode, a 25% ante and a 100x buy.
- Gates of Olympus Super Scatter (2025): back to 500x orbs, but with Super Scatter prizes up to 50,000x and a 50% ante.
- Gates of Olympus 2500 (2026): orbs up to 2,500x, a 25,000x max win, four free spins modes picked by a wheel and a long list of bonus bets.
The 1000 is the closest to the original. Nothing new is added to the rules; the change is in the maths. Higher orb values and a higher cap give the game a bigger ceiling, at the cost of even more volatile results. Reviewers also note sharper graphics and effects than the first release.
For many players this is the version to start with. It has the fewest options, so it is the easiest to understand, and the step up from 5,000x to 15,000x is large without the extra menus of the later editions.
Gates of Olympus 1000 orb multipliers explained
Orb multiplier symbols can land on any spin or tumble, in both the base game and free spins. Each carries a random value between 2x and 1,000x. When the tumble sequence ends, every orb on the grid is added together and the total multiplies the win for that spin.
Orbs only matter when the spin also wins. A 100x orb on a spin with no cluster pays nothing. In the base game the orbs reset after each paid spin, so they boost single results rather than building over a session.
The jump from a 500x to a 1,000x cap affects the rare top end more than everyday play. Most orbs still carry small values, which is why many spins return little and a few return a lot.
Gates of Olympus 1000 free spins
Four or more Zeus scatters trigger 15 free spins. The scatters also pay directly: 3x for four, 5x for five and 100x for six. During the round, three or more scatters award five extra spins, and there is no limit on retriggers.
The key feature is the total multiplier. When an orb lands on a winning spin, its value is added to a running total that stays for the rest of the round. Every later win is multiplied by that total plus any new orbs. A round that collects several orbs early can therefore end far stronger than it began, while a round with no early orbs often pays very little.
Review data puts the natural trigger at about one in 448 spins without the ante. That is a long wait at normal stakes, which is why the ante and the buy feature are so widely used in this game.
Gates of Olympus 1000 bonus buy and ante bet
| Option | Cost | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Ante Bet | 1.25x bet | About twice the chance of triggering free spins |
| Buy Free Spins | 100x bet | Four scatters guaranteed, starting 15 free spins |
The menu is short. The ante adds 25% to every spin and roughly halves the average wait for free spins by putting more scatters on the reels. If you play the base game for long sessions, it is a reasonable option, but it does raise the cost of each round by a quarter.
The buy costs 100x the bet. At a 1 unit bet that is 100 units for one round, and many bought rounds will return less than the price. There is no Super Free Spins buy in this version, unlike the Super Scatter and 2500 editions. Both options are unavailable in some countries, including the UK.
Gates of Olympus 1000 RTP, volatility and max win
The standard Gates of Olympus 1000 RTP is 96.50%, as listed on Pragmatic Play's own game page and confirmed by independent reviews. Lower versions also exist, and the casino chooses which to run, so check the rules screen before playing.
The game labels itself High volatility on its intro screen, while some sites rate it higher; OLBG puts it at very high, the top of its scale. OLBG lists a hit rate of about 28.4%, or one winning spin in every 3.5. A 1,000x or bigger win comes about once in 45,000 spins on average.
The Gates of Olympus 1000 max win is 15,000x the bet, three times the original. OLBG puts the odds of hitting the cap at about 1 in 2.75 million spins. That is the most reachable cap in the series, compared with roughly 1 in 13.5 million for the 2500 version's 25,000x and 1 in 667 million for the Super Scatter version's 50,000x.
Is there a Gates of Olympus 1000 demo?
Yes. Pragmatic Play supplies a free Gates of Olympus 1000 demo with play money, and you can run it on this page without registering. It is useful for seeing how rarely large orbs land and how the total multiplier grows in free spins.

Who Gates of Olympus 1000 suits
Gates of Olympus 1000 suits players who want the classic Zeus game with a higher ceiling and no extra complexity. It is the easiest version to learn, and its 15,000x cap is the most realistic big target in the series.
It is less suited to anyone who dislikes long dry spells. The high volatility means many short sessions will end without a bonus, so set a budget before you start.
Our verdict on Gates of Olympus 1000
Gates of Olympus 1000 does one thing: it takes a hugely popular slot and raises the stakes. The rules, symbols and free spins work exactly as before, but orbs up to 1,000x and a 15,000x cap make every bonus round feel more open. With a 96.50% RTP and only two extra options, it is the cleanest version in the series.
There is little new here for players who already know the original, and the high volatility can be punishing. If you want variety in the bonus, the 2500 edition offers more. If you want the simple game with a bigger cap, this is still the one to play. Try the demo first and keep the 100x buy for budgets that can absorb it.
Overall = 8.0×0.25 + 6.5×0.25 + 7.5×0.2 + 7.5×0.15 + 7.0×0.15 = 7.3. The score rates the game, not your odds of winning.
