How to play Tongue
The Tongue slot uses six reels and five rows with scatter pays. Eight or more matching symbols anywhere on the grid make a win, the winning symbols disappear, and new ones fall in to give the spin another chance. There are no paylines to track.
Stake lists bets from 0.01 to 2,000, which makes Tongue one of the cheapest games on the site to try and one of the widest ranges for high rollers. The art is grim cartoon horror: a foggy farmyard in grey and blood red, with plague-doctor figures, haystacks and cart wheels on the reels. Stake describes the soundtrack as built to raise tension.
The regular cascades provide the steady part of the game. The real value sits in the Tongue symbol and the prize symbols it can reach.
Tongue features explained
Tongue's features revolve around one idea: babies carry prizes, and the Tongue collects them.
- Babies: regular babies carry prizes of 0.20 to 10, and mutated babies carry 20 to 1,000. Stake's page shows these as amounts rather than bet multiples, so they are most likely quoted for a 1.00 bet. The base game at a 1.00 bet shows babies worth 1 to 5, which fits.
- Ghost babies: carry multipliers of 2x to 8x instead of cash.
- Tongue Collect: the Tongue symbol collects the prizes and multipliers of the babies near it.
- Prize Bomb: scatters a random set of prizes and multipliers across the board, and can add babies and the MAX pod to the reels.
- MAX pod: if it lands next to the Tongue symbol, the full 20,000x max win is awarded instantly.
The game's intro screen fills in two names that Stake's page only lists. The Max Win Prize is the MAX pod, which pays the instant 20,000x when it lands within reach of the Tongue. The Slice is an action symbol, like the Prize Bomb, and its job is to trigger a tumble.
Tongue free spins
Four or more Bonus symbols trigger 10 free spins, and every Bonus symbol beyond the fourth adds two more. Six Bonus symbols would therefore start the round with 14 spins.
In free spins, Tongue Collect becomes progressive. Prizes claimed by the Tongue are held during the round, and so is the total multiplier collected from ghost babies. When the last spin ends, every claimed prize is multiplied by that total. That structure rewards patience: an early ghost baby helps every prize collected after it, and a round that collects several multipliers can turn modest baby prizes into a large finish.
We could not confirm whether the feature can be retriggered or whether the multiplier has an upper limit.
Tongue bonus buy options
| Option | Cost | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Bonus | 500× bet | Direct entry to free spins |
| Max Win Boost 1 | 1,000× bet per spin | Boosted spins aimed at the max win |
| Max Win Boost 2 | 2,000× bet per spin | Stronger boost |
| Max Win Boost 3 | 3,000× bet per spin | Strongest boost |
The 500x bonus buy is expensive by the standards of the genre, where many free spins buys cost 100x to 200x. At a 0.10 bet it costs 50, and at a 1.00 bet it costs 500. The three Max Win Boost tiers are priced per spin, and Stake's page does not say exactly how they work. Based on the name and the MAX pod mechanic, they most likely raise the chance of the MAX pod landing next to the Tongue, but we could not confirm this.
Buying at these prices raises the cost of each round sharply, and a 3,000x spin can lose its full cost in one go. The return of each buy option is not published.
Tongue RTP, volatility and max win
The Tongue RTP is 96.70%, a house edge of 3.30%, which is above the 96% many slots use. It matches the figure on Twist Gaming's Bank Basher 2 Vegas, and we found no alternative version.
Stake rates the volatility as high, and the design supports that. The big outcomes depend on the Tongue meeting mutated babies, ghost multipliers or the MAX pod, which does not happen often.
The Tongue max win is 20,000x your bet, confirmed by Stake and by BonusTiime, which ranks it as Twist Gaming's highest cap. Unusually, it can be paid out in one event through the MAX pod rather than only through a long chain of wins.
Twist Gaming and Stake
Twist Gaming is the in-house studio of Easygo, the group behind Stake, and its games are released on Stake through Stake Engine. Tongue carries the Only on Stake label on Stake.com and Stake.us, and it does not appear on Twist Gaming's public game list or in the usual slot databases. Its other titles include Bank Basher, Win.exe and Payback Posse.
Who Tongue suits
Tongue suits players who like collect mechanics and a clear jackpot moment, and the 0.01 minimum makes it very cheap to try. The 96.70% RTP is another point in its favour.
It suits players who want to buy the bonus much less, because the 500x entry price is steep and the Max Win Boosts are poorly documented. Play it in Fun Play first to see how often the Tongue reaches anything. You can read more about where we play in our Stake review.
Our verdict on Tongue
Tongue has a memorable hook. Babies carrying prizes, ghost babies carrying multipliers and a Tongue that collects them give the scatter pays grid a clear focus, and the MAX pod gives the game a single moment that can award the full 20,000x. The 96.70% RTP and the 0.01 minimum bet make it easy to recommend as something to try.
What holds the score back is how little is documented. The Max Win Boost buys are not explained, the 500x bonus buy is expensive, and we found no independent review to check Stake's figures against. Play it at a small stake, and treat the buys with caution until the rules are clearer.
Overall = 8.4×0.25 + 7.2×0.25 + 7.8×0.2 + 6.8×0.15 + 6.8×0.15 = 7.5. The score rates the game, not your odds of winning.
