Red Door Roulette strategy guide

Red Door Roulette is Evolution's blend of European roulette and the Crazy Time bonus game. Each round, three to fifteen numbers receive keys, and a winning straight-up on a keyed number opens the red door to a 64-segment multiplier wheel. Plain straight-ups pay 19:1 to fund it, while every other bet keeps standard odds and the usual single-zero edge.

Key points

  • Outside bets return 97.30%; straight-ups return 97.09%. On 100 bets of 1.00 that is about 2.70 against 2.91 on average.
  • A plain straight-up win pays 19:1. Without a bonus, single numbers return only about 54% of the stake.
  • Keys are dealt after betting closes, so you cannot pick keyed numbers; trackers and hot lists do not help.
  • The bonus wheel can reach 4,000x, but it is rare for any single number: between 1 in 91 and 1 in 456 rounds.
  • Systems such as Martingale and Fibonacci reshape results without changing the edge; set limits instead.

How Red Door Roulette works

Red Door Roulette uses a standard European wheel with numbers 0 to 36 and a single zero. You bet on the usual layout: single numbers, splits, streets, corners, six lines, dozens, columns and the even-money bets. Evolution launched it in November 2023, combining ideas from Lightning Roulette with the bonus round of its Crazy Time game show.

After betting closes, a slot-style reel sets a Bonus Number between 3 and 15. That number decides how many keys are handed out, and each key lands on a different number on the layout. In some rounds a random multiplier from 2x to 20x is also revealed, which Evolution says can boost a winning payout or the values on the bonus wheel.

Then the dealer spins. If the ball lands on a keyed number and you have a straight-up on it, the red door opens and you play the bonus. If it lands on a number without a key, straight-ups on it pay 19:1 and all other bets settle at their normal rates.

Bets, odds and RTP in Red Door Roulette

The bets table lists every wager. Independent reviews quoting Evolution give two RTP figures:

  • 97.30% for every bet except straight-ups. Splits, corners, dozens and red/black pay exactly as at any European table, and the edge comes only from the zero.
  • 97.09% for straight-ups, once the bonus wheel is included.

In money that is 2.70 against 2.91 per 100.00 staked, a gap of about 0.21. The more important number is how the straight-up return is split. A plain 19:1 win gives back 20 units per 37 spins on one number, about 54.1% of the stake. The other 43 percentage points or so of the 97.09% only arrive through the bonus round.

For one straight-up, the bonus needs two things in the same round: the ball must land on your number (1 in 37) and that number must hold a key (3 to 15 keys out of 37 numbers). Combined, that is about 1 in 456 rounds with three keys and about 1 in 91 with fifteen. Most short sessions on numbers will not see the door open at all, and in those sessions the realised return is close to 54%.

The red door bonus round

The bonus uses a 64-segment wheel modelled on the Crazy Time bonus. Each segment shows a multiplier or the word DOUBLE. When the wheel stops on DOUBLE, every multiplier on the wheel is doubled and it spins again; this can repeat several times, which is how the highest results are built. When it stops on a multiplier, that value is paid on your straight-up stake for the keyed number.

If the round revealed a 2x to 20x multiplier, it can carry into the bonus and lift the wheel values before the spin. The top of the range is reported as 4,000x. Evolution does not publish the full segment list or the probability of each value on its public game page, so a realistic average bonus figure cannot be quoted honestly. What can be said is that the bonus has to carry roughly 43% of the straight-up return, so the average bonus must be large relative to the 19:1 base.

Only straight-ups qualify. A split or corner that includes a keyed number pays its normal odds and does not open the door.

Red Door Roulette strategies and their maths

Every bet has a fixed expected return, and spins are independent. A strategy can change how often you win, how big the swings are and how fast you might run out of money. It cannot change the 2.7% to 2.91% edge. The strategies table rates the common approaches; here is the arithmetic.

Martingale on even money. Start at 1.00 on red and double after every loss. Each finished sequence wins 1.00, but eight losses in a row cost 255. Each even-money bet loses 19 times in 37, and the chance of at least one eight-loss run in 200 spins is about 37%, rising to about 70% over 500 spins. If the table maximum is 1,000 times your base stake, the doubling stops after ten losses however much money you bring.

D'Alembert. One unit up after a loss, one unit down after a win. After ten straight losses you are 55 units down and the next bet is 11. It depends on wins and losses evening out, and the zero keeps them slightly uneven every spin.

Fibonacci. The sequence 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21 grows more slowly than doubling. Twelve losses in a row still cost 376 units with a 233-unit bet next. The expected loss is 2.7% of whatever you stake.

Cover the table. With 1.00 on all 37 numbers you win every round and qualify for every bonus, because the winning number is always one of yours. On a round where the winner has no key, the 19:1 payout returns 20.00 of the 37.00 staked, a loss of 17.00. Whether the winner holds a key depends on how many keys were dealt: about 8% of rounds with three keys and about 41% with fifteen. The expected cost is about 1.08 per round, exactly the straight-up edge on 37.00 of turnover.

Bonus chasing with a few numbers. Five straight-ups at 0.20 win about one round in seven and give five chances at a keyed hit, at much lower turnover than covering everything. It is still a 97.09% bet.

Bankroll and session plan

The bonus concentrates value in rare rounds, so plan for long stretches without it.

Worked example. You set aside 100.00 for about an hour, which is roughly 60 rounds.

  • 1.00 a round on dozens or red/black: expected cost about 1.62. Typical sessions finish within about 10.00 to 15.00 of the start.
  • 1.00 a round as five straight-ups of 0.20: expected cost about 1.75, but with no bonus the five numbers win about 8 times and return about 32.00 of the 60.00 staked. An unlucky session ends 20.00 to 35.00 down. One bonus at 100x on a 0.20 chip returns 20.00, which is why the long-run figure still sits near 97%.
  • 2.00 a round on one number: 50 rounds without a hit empties the bankroll, and a plain 19:1 win only returns 40.00.

Pick a loss limit (half the bankroll is a common choice), a time limit, and a rule for what happens after a big bonus. Stopping after a large win is sensible; it does not change the edge, but it stops you giving a lucky result straight back.

Myths about keys and bonus numbers

  • "Some numbers get keys more often." Keys are allocated at random each round. Short-term patterns on statistics sites are what random data looks like.
  • "After many low Bonus Numbers, a 15 is due." Each round's reel result is independent. A run of threes says nothing about the next one.
  • "You can bet once you see the keys." The keys appear after betting closes. If you could see them first, the game could not pay 19:1 and stay at 97%.
  • "Covering the whole table beats the house." It makes every keyed winner yours, but you pay the straight-up edge on 37 times the stake.

Red Door Roulette compared with Lightning games

All three games share a single-zero wheel and a 97.30% RTP on non-straight bets. Lightning Roulette pays 29:1 on plain numbers and boosts one to five numbers by 50x to 500x, so it is the steadiest of the three on straight-ups. XXXtreme Lightning Roulette and Red Door both cut plain numbers to 19:1. XXXtreme puts the value into multipliers up to 2,000x; Red Door puts it into a bonus wheel that can reach 4,000x and that triggers more often per number when many keys are dealt.

Not confirmed: RTP 97.09% (straight-ups) and 97.30% (other bets) come from casino.org and casinos.com; Evolution's public game page does not print RTP. The 4,000x maximum multiplier and a reported 500,000 per-round cap come from independent reviews; casinos.com shows the cap in both EUR and USD. Sources differ on how the 2x-20x round multiplier applies: Evolution says it boosts a winning payout or the wheel segments; one review says it lifts all wheel values before the spin. It is not confirmed whether a keyed straight-up winner also receives the 19:1 base payout in addition to the bonus result, or whether the player picks a flapper as in Crazy Time. Evolution does not publish the bonus wheel segment values or weights. Table limits vary by operator, so minBet and maxBet are left null.
