Le Bandit slot review
Le Bandit is the Hacksaw Gaming slot that started the Le series, introducing Smokey the raccoon and the Golden Squares mechanic on a 6×5 cluster pays grid. Winning positions turn into hidden coins, clovers and pots when a Rainbow lands, and three free spins tiers keep those squares alive for longer, with a 10,000x cap.

How to play Le Bandit
The Le Bandit slot runs on six reels and five rows with cluster pays. Five or more matching symbols connected horizontally or vertically make a win. Winning symbols are removed together with every other symbol of the same type, new ones drop in, and the cascade continues while fresh clusters keep forming.
Bets range from 0.10 to 100 per spin. The paytable is modest: the card ranks pay 0.1x to 15x depending on cluster size, the trap and cheese up to 25x, the beer and baguettes up to 50x, and the top hat up to 100x for a cluster of 13 or more. The reward poster Wild substitutes for every pay symbol.
The hit rate is listed at about 32%, roughly one paying spin in three. Most of those are small clusters, and the bigger results come from the Golden Squares feature explained below.
Le Bandit features explained
Every position involved in a win becomes a Golden Square. If a Rainbow symbol lands on the same spin, once all wins are paid the squares activate and each one reveals a special symbol. Without a Rainbow the squares disappear at the end of the spin.
- Bronze Coins: 0.2x, 0.5x, 1x, 2x, 3x or 4x your bet.
- Silver Coins: 5x, 10x, 15x or 20x.
- Gold Coins: 25x, 50x, 100x, 250x or 500x.
- Four-Leaf Clovers: multiply the coins and pots next to them by 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or 10x.
- Pot of Gold: activates after the clovers and collects every coin value and every other pot on the grid. The Golden Squares then reactivate, and the process repeats until no new pot appears.
That repeat step is what gives the feature its reach. A big cluster creates many squares, more squares mean more chances for a clover and a pot, and each new pot can trigger another round of reveals. Most Rainbow hits still end with a handful of bronze coins, which is why the game feels steady rather than explosive.
Le Bandit free spins and bonus games
Free spins are triggered by Polaroid camera scatters, and the number you land decides the tier.
- Luck of the Bandit (3 scatters): 8 free spins. Golden Squares stay highlighted between spins until a Rainbow activates them, so the grid can build up over several spins. Two more scatters add 2 spins, three add more, and four upgrade you to the next tier with 4 extra spins.
- All That Glitters Is Gold (4 scatters): 12 free spins. Golden Squares stay highlighted for the whole round, even after a Rainbow has activated them, so every later Rainbow reopens a growing area of the grid. Extra scatters add spins the same way.
- Treasure at the End of the Rainbow (5 scatters): the hidden top tier with 12 free spins. Squares never reset, a Rainbow lands on every spin and Bronze Coins are removed, so every coin revealed is worth at least 5x.
The gap between the tiers is large. Luck of the Bandit often pays modestly because squares reset after each Rainbow, while All That Glitters Is Gold is where the game's bigger results usually come from.
Le Bandit bonus buy options
| Feature | Cost | RTP | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| BonusHunt FeatureSpins | 3× bet per spin | 96.28% | Spins that are five times more likely to trigger a bonus |
| Rainbow FeatureSpins | 50× bet per spin | 96.36% | A Rainbow symbol on every spin |
| Luck of the Bandit | 100× bet | 96.30% | 8 free spins in the entry tier |
| All That Glitters Is Gold | 250× bet | 96.40% | 12 free spins in the second tier |
At a 1.00 bet the two free spins buys cost 100 and 250. All That Glitters Is Gold has the highest listed return and the stronger mechanic, so for players who buy bonuses it is usually the more interesting option, although its price means fewer attempts per budget. Rainbow FeatureSpins at 50x per spin gets expensive quickly: ten of them cost 500.
Treasure at the End of the Rainbow cannot be bought. Bonus buys raise the cost of each round sharply, they are not offered in the UK, and BonusHunt is rated high volatility despite its low price.
Le Bandit RTP, volatility and max win
The top Le Bandit RTP is 96.34%, a house edge of 3.66%. Hacksaw also supplies 94.23%, 92.17% and 88.36% versions, and the casino decides which one you get, so check the info screen before playing.
Hacksaw rates the volatility 3 out of 5, and independent databases agree on medium. With a hit rate near one in three and frequent small reveals, sessions tend to move in gentler steps than in most Hacksaw games, though long gaps between bonuses still happen.
The Le Bandit max win is 10,000x your bet, confirmed on Hacksaw's game page. Databases list the odds of reaching it at about 1 in 14 million spins. At the 100 top bet that is a potential payout of 1,000,000, but it is a theoretical ceiling that only a strong run of pots and clovers in the upper bonus tiers can approach.
Le Bandit and the rest of the Le series
Le Bandit is the template. It introduced Smokey, the raccoon thief with a crowbar and a curled moustache, along with the Golden Squares and Rainbow system that later Le games reuse in new costumes. Hacksaw has also released a separate Le Bandit Hold & Win spin-off.
Later entries add layers on top of this base. Le Vampire brings Diamond coins, a local Bag of Gold collector, Epic Rainbows and Blood Squares, and raises the cap to 15,000x. Le Outlaw replaces Rainbow reveals with revolver shots from winning Wilds and links its free spins tiers through a gamble, with a 25,000x cap.
Compared with those, Le Bandit is the simplest and the most readable: three coin grades, clovers and one collector type. Its sepia Parisian backstreets, the speech-bubble quips and the playful soundtrack still hold up, and the simpler maths is part of why it remains one of the most played slots on Stake.
Who Le Bandit suits
Le Bandit suits players who want a medium volatility slot with a clear, satisfying feature and a decent chance of seeing something happen on most sessions. It is also the natural starting point for anyone curious about the Le series.
Players who want the very highest caps or the most complex mechanics will find more in the newer Le games. The 0.10 minimum bet keeps it accessible, and the free demo on Stake is a good way to learn how the Golden Squares behave. See our Stake review for more on the site.
Our verdict on Le Bandit
Le Bandit is a well-balanced slot and still the cleanest version of the Le formula. Golden Squares that turn into coins, clovers and repeating Pot of Gold collections give the base game a clear goal, and the three free spins tiers escalate in a way that is easy to follow. A 96.34% top RTP and published buy RTPs around 96.3% to 96.4% make it fair by Hacksaw standards.
Its limits are a 10,000x cap that later Le games have overtaken and an entry bonus that can feel thin. We recommend it to players who prefer medium volatility and readable features, and to anyone who wants to understand the series before trying Le Vampire or Le Outlaw.
Overall = 7.7×0.25 + 7.5×0.25 + 7.0×0.2 + 7.5×0.15 + 7.5×0.15 = 7.5. The score rates the game, not your odds of winning.
